Hundreds gathered in Dublin, California, to protest the potential conversion of the former Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Dublin into an immigrant detention center. The prison, closed in December 2024 due to poor conditions and a history of staff sexual abuse, was the subject of a $115 million settlement for 103 women. Advocates, including former inmates, are demanding the facility’s demolition rather than its repurposing by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), citing safety and ethical concerns.
