A series of at least ten robberies since March 2024 has targeted BNSF freight trains traversing California and Arizona deserts, resulting in the theft of approximately $2 million worth of goods, including unreleased Nike sneakers. In a notable incident on January 13, thieves stole nearly 2,000 pairs of Nike shoes valued at around $440,000 from a train in Arizona. Many suspects are reportedly undocumented immigrants.
