Governor Gavin Newsom has formally requested nearly $40 billion in disaster funding from Congress to assist with recovery efforts following recent wildfires in Los Angeles. The funds are intended to cover immediate response costs, debris removal, and the rebuilding of housing and infrastructure. This request comes as the state addresses the extensive damage caused by fires that have destroyed over 16,000 structures and resulted in at least 29 deaths.
